Projects for 2016

The Canadian Volunteers for International Development Society has just completed a very successful Fundraising Dinner and Auction.

The function was held on 5 March 2016 at Santa Maria Goretti Community Centre in Edmonton. Since 2009, we have been fortunate to get the services of Mr. Danny Hooper as MC and auctioneer. With his help, we have been able to raise enough funds to carry out most of the projects on our wish list.

Here are the projects, and approximate costs for 2016:

Cayambe area of Ecuador:
Anti-parasitic and dental hygiene program

One of our members, Jenna, gave a speech about her last trip to Ecuador in November 2015:

Jenna is a registered nurse working at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton. She has been a valued member of the CVIDS team since 2013.

⦁ As my friends discussed being tormented over the decision as to which size of iPad they should buy for their children, I was really struggling to feel connected to their issues.

⦁ I couldn’t help but think back to how only the “lucky” children in Ecuador would receive protection against their water, or adequate dental treatment with fluoride.

⦁ The breakdown is that it costs $30,000 for Dr. Carmen and her team to ensure that 400 children in 15 plus villages can receive 2 treatments of medication per year and dental care.
