Early in 2006, a group of people were brought together by Father Luciano Cortopassi (at the time, Fr. Luciano was pastor of St. Maria Goretti Italian Parish in Edmonton) with the purpose of providing humanitarian aid to the poor – particularly children – of developing countries.
In July of 2009, the Canadian Volunteers for International Development Society was granted the “registered charity” designation by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA Registration Number – 85520 1364 RR0001). This means that donations made to CVIDS can be claimed on one’s Canadian Income tax return.
The Board of Directors of CVIDS consist of the Executive – President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary – Chosen by election from the general membership. The total membership of the Society is around 25 members (this number varies from time to time).
Although many of our members are healthcare professions, the majority are ordinary people from all walks of life who are interested in helping the less fortunate of the world.
